Campbell beats Liberty 6-4 to earn spot in Big South Baseball Title Game
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Top seed Campbell ended Liberty's strong Big South Tournament run Friday night 6-4, but the Flames kept it interesting all the way to the final out.
Liberty forced a second game with Campbell after doubling up the Camels 10-5 in the day's first game. After the Flames got within 4-3 in the fifth, the Camels answered with two in the bottom of the fifth to pad the lead to 6-3.
But back came Liberty in its last at-bat, down to the final out, Logan Mathieu draws a bases-loaded walk to make it 6-4, bases still loaded. Could the Flames pull out another dramatic win?
Cam Locklear puts a charge into this one to left, but Matthew Barefoot's got room just in front of the warning track to sew it up.
Campbell hangs on for the 6-4 win, LU ends the season 32-and-26.
Scott Jackson, LIBERTY FLAMES HEAD COACH , said "I mean I couldn't be more proud to be their coach, just the way that, you know you're on your home field, nobody wants to lose the tournament on your home field. So you know we get a walk-off home run, we get a lot of emotion this morning, you know go out there and score 10 against Campbell. And yea, you're daggum right I'm proud to be their coach."
