Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl leaving Salem after this December's championship

SALEM, Va. (WSET) - The Stagg Bowl Division 3 National Football title game, a Salem tradition, will end a 25-year run in Virginia's Championship City after this December's game.

The NCAA has decided to move the championship out of Salem. The Stagg Bowl will be played in Shenandoah, Texas in 2018 and '19 before moving to Canton, Ohio in 2020 and '21.

In addition, men's Division 3 basketball and women's Division 2 softball will also be played in cities other than Salem after the spring of 2018. Salem Tourism Director Carey Harveycutter said it's been an incredible run for a city the size of Salem to host so many big NCAA events.

Salem and the ODAC will ADD the Division 3 Women's Basketball Championship in 2019 and '21 at Roanoke College's Cregger Center.

Some softball and women's lacrosse championships return in 2021, also Ferrum and the Berglund Center host Division 3 wrestling in 2019.
