#8 Wofford beats VMI 45-14 in Keydets' season finale
LEXINGTON, Va. (WSET) - VMI's defense held #8 Wofford to 295 total yards for the game, but the Terriers took advantage of four Keydets turnovers to beat VMI 45-14 in the Keydets' season finale.
The Terriers clinched the Southern Conference's automatic berth to the FCS playoffs with the victory. VMI concludes the season at 0-and-11.
Wofford turned VMI's four turnovers into 21 points on the way to its first league title since 2012.
Freshman Kris Thornton led VMI with 12 catches for 108 yards and two touchdowns, all career highs, while quarterback Reece Udinski went 24 of 40 for 207 yards and two scores in his first career start.
Wofford's rushing attack was held to 158 yards on the ground, its second-lowest total of the season, but the Terriers threw for an uncharacteristic 137 yards and five different players scored rushing touchdowns to take the victory.
Wofford jumped out to a 21-0 lead late in the first half before VMI scored in the final seconds of the half to make it a 21-7 game at intermission.
The Terriers, though, then would rip off 24 straight points to put the game away.
The game ended the Keydet careers of several seniors, a group led by linebackers Allan Cratsenberg and Ryan Francis, who finished their time at VMI ranked third and fourth in school history in tackles.
