V.E.S. boys, Timberlake girls win in Independent Schools state quarterfinals

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Sophomore Patrick Kelly poured in a game-high 20 points to help lead V.E.S. to a 48-45 win over Hargrave Military in the Independent Schools' Division Two state quarterfinals.

Adnan Arslanagic added 14 points, Admir Besovic 10 as the Bishops improved to 15-and-6 on the season and advanced to Friday's semifinals in Petersburg. V.E.S. will play Blue Ridge for a third time, the two teams split during the regular season.

Hargrave had its 17-game win streak snapped with the loss. Tre King led the Tigers in scoring with 17, David Garey added 14.

Hargrave finishes a strong season 26-and-4 overall.

In Independent Girls Division Three action, Timberlake rolled over Veritas School 90-16. The Tornadoes had balanced scoring, led by Lauren Christian with 22 points. Deshauna Jones added 20, Darian Finnerty 17 and Danicia Randolph 16.

Timberlake will next face Carlisle in the state semifinals Friday at 1:30 at Steward School in Richmond.
