Magna Vista girls win, Chatham boys fall in Friday afternoon state basketball

RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) - Kayla Cabiness scored 19 points to help lead Magna Vista to a 42-25 win over Hidden Valley in the 3A Girls state semifinals Friday afternoon at VCU's Siegel Center.

Both teams struggled on offense, Magna Vista led at the half 16-15. The Warriors defense took over in the second half, holding Hidden Valley to just 10 total points.

Magna Vista advances to next Friday's state championship game against the Brookville/Broadway winner.

Next Friday's title game is set for 2:30 at the Siegel Center in Richmond.

In 2A boys quarterfinal action at JMU, Chatham took a four-point lead to the final quarter against Madison County.

But the Mountaineers outscored the Cavaliers 22-4 in the fourth quarter to pull out the 61-47 win.

Tyler Fitzgerald led Chatham with 17 points.

Madison County advances to Saturday's state semifinal action.
