Salem preps for Saturday's state semifinal against Sherando
SALEM, Va. (WSET) - Salem is two wins away from a third-straight state championship. The 11-and-2 Spartans host 11-and-2 Sherando Saturday at 2.
Both these teams have defeated higher seeds the past two weeks to make it to the Final Four.
Stephen Magenbauer, SALEM HEAD COACH, said "Sherando's got an excellent team, they're very physical, they stress you as far as mentally, you've got to be sharp. They run a lot of different formations, you know, trying to look for mismatches, so we've got to play extremely disciplined football to be able to beat these guys."
Jack Gladden, SALEM SENIOR QUARTERBACK, said "Late in the season, maybe Week 8, Week 9, we really started picking it up. We started, you know, running the ball again. We established what we want to do, what we do here, run the ball. Once we started that, we really got on a roll and it really opened up the play-action."
