Roanoke - This week's ABC 13 High School Team of the Week is the Northside football team. The Vikings play for a state championship Saturday in Lynchburg. 13-and-1 Northside won at Loudoun Valley 29-14 in the semifinals. And the Vikings will try and nail down their second state title in school history and first since 2009 this Saturday. Northside battles the team that edged Heritage, James Monroe, at noon Saturday at LU.
Burt Torrence, NORTHSIDE VIKINGS HEAD COACH, said "You know the beautiful thing about this team is that they focused on the next opponent. And you know after Saturday there won't be a next opponent, so that's a good thing for us."
Dominic Dunnaville, NORTHSIDE SENIOR QUARTERBACK, said "I believe James Monroe is a powerful defensive football team. I believe they're defense-first like we are and I mean they're a great team."
Sam Krizner, NORTHSIDE SENIOR TAILBACK, said "Our chemistry is really good, everybody on our team gets along real good. We can all joke with each other and everybody is really disciplined and everybody knows that for one person to do well the other person has to do their job. So it all occurs in a big machine, I guess."
