Bedford County - New Jefferson Forest football coach Bob Christmas returned to his old stomping grounds Thursday.
Christmas, who's coming back to guide the Cavaliers after leading the program to back-to-back state titles in the early 90's, came up from Georgia to meet and talk to his players he'll be working with this coming season. He also talked with parents and old friends at the school. Christmas' staff this year will include former Tech All-American center Jake Grove, along with coaches from his old staff Ed Landis and Richard Trent. Former JF quarterback Doug Jones also joins the staff. Christmas told his players EVERYBODY is probably going to have to work harder than they ever have before, starting Monday with off-season weight training.Bob Christmas, NEW JF FOOTBALL COACH, said "Players are going to have to see the parents in their lives make the same kind of commitment and roll up their sleeves and work hard. Coaches have got to lead the way and it's just going to take a concentrated effort. This certainly isn't something I can do by myself, but together, with all of us busting our rear ends, I think we can get this thing back where it was."
Two years ago, Christmas' Georgia team led the state in scoring at 53 points a game, they weren't far behind this past season at 48 a game.
Bob Christmas said "We didn't have the personnel to run the spread which everyone's running, a form of it. So I said we're going to go old school. We're gonna put our old offense in, we're gonna run more triple option with it and we're gonna do more no-huddle."
