Virginia 10 Miler a family affair for the McPhatters
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) When the 44th Genworth Virginia 10 Miler begins Saturday morning at 8 at E.C. Glass, spectators will be treated to an impressive field of elite runners.
And 11th-year Race Director Jeff Fedorko says more than half of the 70 or so top runners will be competing in their FIRST 10 Miler.
We'll see a lot more women elite runners, about a 50/50 split with the men.
A new event this year is the 10 Miler Relay with two runners splitting the 10 miles. More than 13-hundred VOLUNTEERS pitch in to make this race go. Lesley McPhatter has been to EVERY 10 Miler, coming as a kid to cheer on her dad Frank. Saturday she'll run the race for the 26th-straight year.
Lesley McPhatter, WILL RUN 26TH STRAIGHT 10 MILER, said "Our family has always been a part of it. My brothers are running on Saturday, my children are running on Saturday, nieces, at various times my sister, all of us have been out there at least once or twice."
