Richmond NASCAR track gets new name, major renovations planned
RICHMOND, Va. (WSET) - Richmond International Raceway is no more.
It's now Richmond Raceway.
And the track's parent company, International Speedway Corporation, is investing 30 million dollars to upgrade the track and give fans a better experience.
Upgrades will include an indoor, interactive garage where fans can watch up close, more shade structures in the infield, a fan zone, wider tunnel between the grandstand and infield and a rooftop club with an elevated view of the track.
The project will begin after the September race and be ready for the September race next fall.
Elliott Sadler, VETERAN NASCAR DRIVER (EMPORIA NATIVE), said "Any type of fan involvement that's going to help our fans get closer to the sport, we're all for. I mean that's what we're here for, you know the fans are what make our sport what it is."
