New NASCAR road course and playoff race coming to Charlotte this fall
CHARLOTTE, NC (WSET) - The bright lights of the 2018 NASCAR Media Tour spotlighted the nearby Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Once the lights kicked on, a new road course, or "Roval Course" was unveiled to the media. The new course will be a hybrid of the original oval track and a road course layout in the infield.
A few drivers turned some laps on the new configuration. Including Joey Logano, and defending Monster Energy Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr. The new schedule for the playoffs this year includes replacing the normal race at Charlotte, with a road course race instead.
But not every driver was sure how they felt about the new challenge just yet. Truex was one of several drivers who tested the new layout during testing last year, and told media members Monday the new layout "...Definitely unique and interesting. I got the chance to do some testing here at the end of last year and it was completely different from any race track i had ever been on. So definitely not real sure how its gonna go. Hopefully in the guy who is not mad at the end of it."
