Nemechek holds off field for Alpha Energy 250 title at Martinsville

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (WSET) - 20-year old John Hunter Nemechek held off a late charge from Kyle Benjamin to take the checkered flag in the Alpha Energy 250 truck race at Martinsville Speedway.

Pole sitter Ben Rhodes easily won stages 1 and 2, but problems in the pits early in the final stage kept the 41 car out of contention, finishing 12th. Multiple caution flags brought the field closer together down the stretch. The final restart came with 7 laps left, as Nemechek dueled 54 truck of Benjamin through the final turns at the "Paper Clip", and survived a final bump exiting turn four to give Nemechek his 6th career win, and first grandfather clock.

Danville's Timothy Peters overcame a slow start, surging into the top ten in the final stage, finishing 7th.
