Area golfers Lee Fisher, Keith Decker advance in State Amateur
ALDIE, Va. (WSET) - 15-year-old Michael Brennan of Leesburg fired a 4-under 68 Wednesday, a round that included two eagles, to earn stroke play medalist honors and top seed for match play starting Thursday in the State Amateur in Loudoun County.
Brennan's two-day total of 6-under 138 was one shot better than first-day leader Scott Shingler.
Locals Lee Fisher of Lynchburg and Keith Decker of Martinsville both made the cut to qualify for match play, Fisher finished stroke-play qualifying at 3-over 147, Decker at 5-over 149. Blacksburg's Ben Carroll also advances to Thursday's match play at 4-over 148.
Lynchburg's Connor Burgess missed the cut-off by three shots.
Thursday's round of 32 match play begins at 8 in the morning with round of 16 matches beginning at approximately 12:30 in the afternoon.
