Area golfers knocked out Thursday in State Amateur match play

ALDIE, Va. (WSET) - Lynchburg golfer Lee Fisher won his first round of match play Thursday morning at the State Amateur in Loudoun County.

Fisher rolled over Ian Hildebrand 6-and-5 to advance to the afternoon Round of 16. Virginia Tech sophomore Mark Lawrence, Junior out of Richmond ended Fisher's bid with a 4-and-3 win.

Martinsville's Keith Decker and Blacksburg's Ben Carroll were knocked out in the morning's first round. Quarterfinals and semifinals are slated for Friday with the championship final set for Saturday.
