Alex Bowman, Jimmie Johnson talk about Hendrick's new 2018 look
CHARLOTTE, NC (WSET) - It's a year of change for lots of NASCAR teams this season, including Hendrick Motorsports with Dale Earnhardt, Junior's retirement.
Alex Bowman takes over the 88, William Byron now in the 24 and Chase Elliott moves into the number 9 Chevrolet.
Jimmie Johnson is the old man on the team, the only veteran. But the young guys like Bowman are quick to tell you they mean business. Bowman says he's not here to share his lunch money with the other young drivers on the circuit.
Alex Bowman, DRIVER OF THE #88 CHEVROLET, said "I'm not one of those guys who wants to be friends with everybody at the bus lot. Those are my competitors and my job is to beat them every week. So I'm more focused on that than being their friends."
Jimmie Johnson, 7-TIME NASCAR CHAMPION, said "I can't say hey guys let's have a beer. It would exclude William in the process. Although they are young, I don't look at them in that sense. They are all very experienced drivers. All very accomplished drivers, winning championships and have earned their spots at Hendrick Motorsports."
Daytona 500 Speed Weeks start next month and the race is February 18th.
