FAUQUIER Co., Va. (WSET) -- The wife of a prominent lawyer, who served three presidents, was arrested Tuesday for delivering contraband items to an inmate after the two had sex in a car outside the Fauquier County, Virginia, jail, according to the Richmond-Times Dispatch.

Teresa Burchfield, 53, of McLean was arrested after detectives found her and a 23-year-old inmate in the back seat of a car parked near the jail, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

According to a criminal complaint filed at the Fauquier County General District Court, the couple had been having sex.

The sheriff's office said the inmate was in possession of suspected vitamin supplement pills, clothing, and cigarettes, which are unauthorized, given to him by Burchfield.

Detectives said the inmate was on "trustee" status, which is an inmate with minimal charges and sentence authorized to perform work inside and outside of the detention center and sheriff's office facilities.

Burchfield is charged with willfully delivering unauthorized articles to a confined prisoner, a class 1 misdemeanor and was held on a $5,000 secured bond at the time of her arrest.

The newspaper reported that her husband is Bobby Burchfield, a veteran GOP lawyer, who the Trump Organization picked as outside ethics counsel to help navigate the potential conflicts of interest between the business and the Trump administration.

He also advised both Bush presidential teams and is a partner in the Washington office of law firm giant King & Spalding.
