Wards Rd. Chick-fil-A to close next month for expansion, food truck opening in Forest
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The Chick-fil-A on Wards Road is closing in a couple of weeks, but don't worry, it will open back up after a little TLC.
The last day the restaurant will be open is June 22.
"It's embarrassing to admit. I come at least 3 times a week. I'm always here for breakfast lunch and dinner," said frequent Chick Fil A customer Savannah Crowder. "Part of me is sad that they're closing but it'll be worth it."
The staff at the Wards Rd location said they are so busy it's time for an expansion.
"At this point we've almost maxed out our capacity of what we can do in terms of reaching more guests and serving more people," said Carrie Wright, director of strategic development for Chick Fil A.
Wright said the building is going to be gutted and remodeled and they will be expanding their kitchen and hiring 40 more employees.
Wright said they won't be expanding their seating area, but the remodel will allow them to service more customers.
"This place is constantly packed," said Nathan Madsen who says he visits the Wards Rd. location twice a week. "Expansion is always good. It shows that businesses are growing and they're doing the right thing."
The renovations include a new farm table, a chandelier made of coke bottles and awnings for the drive thru. The Wards Road location is expected to open back up on August 1.
In the meantime, there will be a Chick-fil-A food truck open in the Aldi's parking lot on Route 221 in Forest.
"They've been asking us for many years 'When is Chick Fil A coming to Forest?' and so we're here to say we're on our way," said Wright. Wright said if all goes well, there's a potential for a permanent location to open in the Forest area.
The construction at the Wards Road location will start as early as next weekend.
