Thomas Jefferson Elementary, New London Academy placed under brief lockdown
BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- Thomas Jefferson Elementary School and New London Academy in Bedford County were placed under lockdown Thursday afternoon due to advice from law enforcement; the lockdown was lifted around 12:30 p.m.
Bedford County Public Schools sent out an alert to parents saying that it was out of precaution and both schools were monitoring buildings closely.
The Bedford County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a domestic dispute and the suspect had a gun, so they placed both schools under lockdown.
They said that suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Both schools are carrying on with their normal classroom routines.
