Suspect in alleged road rage shooting identified as former police officer

ROANOKE Co., Va. (WSET) - The man accused of shooting another man on the Blue Ridge Parkway Tuesday worked as a Roanoke Police officer, according to a Roanoke spokesperson.

He is also the former police chief of the Henderson Police Department in North Carolina.

The National Park Service says Keith Sidwell shot and killed another man during the possible road rage incident Tuesday morning around 10:15 a.m. at milepost 116.5 .

Officials say Sidwell called police to report the shooting right after it happened.

He was arrested, but no charges have been listed.

Roanoke spokesperson Melinda Mayo says Sidwell started working as a police officer in 1982 and retired in 2007.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the shooting is still being investigated.

The victim's identity hasn't been released.
