South Boston hosting Pizza Festival to help fundraise for local nonprofits
SOUTH BOSTON, Va. (WSET) -- There are a lot of great things about October, such as fall foliage, pumpkin spice lattes, and cooler weather, but did you also know October is National Pizza Month?
This year, local pizza restaurants are giving back.
This Saturday, South Boston is hosting a Pizza Festival.
It will be held in the parking lot of the Halifax Square shopping center, where the first 500 people get free pizza and a drink.
The pizzas are being provided by nine different shops in the town, but there will also be food trucks, vendors, games, and a pizza eating contest.
Their goal is to raise money for nonprofits in the area.
Organizers had great success with a strawberry festival a few months back and are hoping for a repeat.
"During the Strawberry Festival we had about a hundred sponsors come together. For the Pizza Festival we've had almost 70 sponsors so it's an awesome event to see the community come together," said Bradley Palmer, and organizer and sponsor of the South Boston Pizza Festival.
The event will be this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
