Snow and freezing rain Sunday morning, temperatures to warm above freezing

(Photo: WSET)

Our roads are becoming a mess this morning! A winter storm is bringing a mix of snow, freezing rain, sleet and rain to Virginia.

Light snow developed in the Lynchburg area near 6:30am, and a dusting of snow has been observed. We measured 0.2" of snow at WSET/ABC-13 in Lynchburg as of 9:00am, and 1" snow totals have been reported in the Roanoke area.

All of our local snow will transition to freezing rain this morning, and slippery roads will result-- Use caution driving this morning!

Road conditions will be less slippery this afternoon as temperatures warm above freezing, and precipitation changes to "all rain."

Rain will taper off across the Lynchburg, Danville and Roanoke area between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
