Sheriff's office looking for suspect after pursuit in Henry County
HENRY Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Henry County Sheriff's Office is looking for a suspect who took off on foot after a car chase in Henry County.
The sheriff's office says the incident began just after 11 a.m. Sunday when an investigator was on Pine St. in the Fieldale area conducting a follow-up investigation.
The investigator saw a green Mazda sedan that had recently been reported to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office as a stolen car, officials say.
They say the investigator attempted to pull the car over, but the driver refused to stop. The car continued through the Fieldale community at slow speeds, the sheriff's office says.
They say the car came to a stop at the intersection of Pine St. and Chestnut St. where a white female exited the passenger seat and ran on foot.
At this point, officials say the driver accelerated away at a high rate of speed. They say the investigator made the decision to terminate the pursuit due to the speeds in a residential community.
A short time later, officials say the investigator found that the car had been involved in single-vehicle crash in the 3000 block of Carver Rd. but the driver fled the scene on foot.
