Sheriff's Office: Amherst Co. deputy shot in head during traffic stop
MONROE, Va. (WSET) - An Amherst County deputy was shot Friday night, officials say.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies initiated a traffic stop at the Monroe Post Office in Amherst County around 11:30 p.m.
They say during the course of the stop, a passenger in the vehicle pulled out a handgun and shot a deputy in the head.
They say another deputy returned fire, striking the suspect.
The deputy who was shot has been treated and released.
The suspect is still being treated, officials say.
Officials haven't been able to comment on the suspect's condition.
The Virginia State Police has been asked to investigate the incident.
