UPDATE: 12 p.m. 2/6
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office identified the man who died as Robert 'Bob' Pollock.
PITTSYLVANIA Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office said a man has died after a tree fell on him while he was working.
The sheriff's office said the man, who was 73, was cutting down a tree in the 1600 block of Clearview Drive in Dry Fork.
Investigators said the man was cutting the tree on his property at Clearview Drive with a chainsaw and it fell back on him; witnesses said he couldn't get out of the way in time.
They said the call came in around 3:30 p.m. by an employee on the man's farm.
Officials said he died at the scene and that the incident was nothing suspicious.
One neighbor was very upset by the death of the man he's lived next to since the 1940's.
"I know I'll miss him. After you've been together all this time it's just hard to believe," said Ray Wood.
Wood said the victim was a hard worker and always willing to lend a hand and is survived by a son who ran the farm with him.
