Sheriff: Human remains found in wooded area of Halifax Co.
HALIFAX Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Halifax County Sheriff's Office said they are investigating after hunters found a dead body in the county.
Sheriff Fred Clark said around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday hunters were hunting in the 4000 block of Sandy Ridge Road in the northern part of Halifax County when one of the hunters found the remains of a human.
Deputies and investigators from the sheriff's office responded to the scene with the help from the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office.
The remains were located in a heavy wooded area about 700 yards off Sandy Ridge Road.
State Police's Bureau of Criminal Investigation's with the third division (Appomattox) were notified also and sent special agents to the scene to help with the investigation.
The remains were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Richmond for identification.
The sheriff's office said foul play is suspected and the investigation is ongoing.
