Sheriff: Amherst man busted for selling more than 500 grams of meth in the area

AMHERST Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Amherst County Sheriff's Office said it's made a 'significant arrest' in the methamphetamine problem plaguing the area.

The sheriff's office said they arrested Ramon Alonso Maldonado, 40, of Amherst without incident on Thursday, December 7 following a traffic stop.

Maldonado is charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance.

Investigators said more specifically, the charges related to selling more than 10 grams of pure methamphetamine and more than 20 grams of a mixture containing methamphetamine. In total, the Amherst County Sheriff's Office said he has been connected with distributing more than 500 grams of meth.

Maldonado has been taken to the Amherst Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.

These charges stem from an ongoing expansive investigation that include the sheriff's office and other state and federal resources.
