Severe storms are possible Thursday

The Storm Prediction Center's outlook for the heart of Virginia (WSET)

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - It will be important to stay weather aware Thursday.

Rain and thunderstorms are possible in the morning, and a few of them could be severe.

Main threats for the severe storms include strong winds, large hail, heavy rain, and lightning.

The Storm Prediction Center has put most of the area in a marginal risk, which is a two out of five.

The unsettled weather continues into Thursday night and Friday.

Rainfall totals between one and three inches are likely.

Most of the area is under an areal flood watch from that starts 2 a.m. Friday and lasts through noon on Saturday.

Areas west of Interstate 81 are under a flash flood watch that starts 2 p.m. Thursday and expires 2 a.m. Friday.
