Police: Human remains found following house fire

WYTHE Co., Va. (WSET) -- Virginia State Police say human remains were found inside a Wythe County home that had been on fire.

According to state police, the fire happened Saturday morning at a home in the 5300 block of Peppers Ferry Road in Mad Meadows.

Officials say a man was able to escape the burning home without injury.

They say officials at the scene were looking for a woman who was last seen inside the home at the time of the fire.

State Police fire investigators found human remains in the home on Monday, September 11.

They say those remains have been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for examination.

State Police say there is no evidence to indicate the fire was suspicious, and the investigation into what caused it is ongoing.
