Rare twin Shire horses born at farm in Bedford County
BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- A farm in Bedford County is celebrating a rare birth.
Rufus and Clay are twin Shire horses.
Living twins are exceedingly rare.
Wade Farms bred says the twins were born premature and both given very little chance of survival, but the Wades, their friends, and the village of people didn't give up.
After several procedures and a lengthy recover at Virginia Tech, both shires now are active and healthy.
"Just thankful that we had some really good friends to come and help, and Dr. Tarra for doing such a good job with them," said Melissa Wade, the co-owner of Wade Farms.
The Wade's said that to the best of their knowledge, the last pair that survived birth was back in 2009.
