CA identifies cyclist killed in Tazewell, gives vehicle description
UPDATE: 5:15 p.m.
The Tazewell County Commonwealth's Attorney identified the cyclist killed in a hit and run incident that happened after midnight on Thursday in Wardell.
Michael Lee Dennis said David Earl Christensen, 54, of Burley, Idaho was killed as a result of being hit by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene.
Dennis said Christensen was cycling through the area on his way to Charlottesville to join his wife who was waiting on him to get there.
He was traveling north on Route 19 about two miles south from the Virginia State Police headquarters.
Law Enforcement is asking for assistance from anyone who may have information regarding this incident.
Police said a preliminary investigation has determined the suspect's vehicle is a Ford F-250 or larger truck, manufactured between 2011 and 2016.
They said the vehicle would have noticeable damage to the front, passenger side of the vehicle and possible damage to other areas of the vehicle.reas of the vehicle.***
TAZEWELL Co., Va. (WSET) - State Police are investigating a crash that left a cyclist dead in Tazewell County.
Police say the man was cycling north on Route 19 near Route 609 when he was hit from behind around 6:15 a.m. Thursday.
Police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
They say the suspect vehicle fled the scene without stopping, and there is no description of it at this time.
