Police: One dead after crash on Route 501 near Gladys
UPDATE: 4 p.m.
State Police has confirmed that one person was killed after two vehicles collided on Route 501 near Gladys Friday afternoon.
Police said the crash involved a van and a pickup truck.
A man driving a pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene and police said the person driving the van was not injured.
Police said the two vehicles were headed in the opposite direction, but it's not clear what caused the collision and that's why police are still investigating.
The man driving the van was very distraught and crying, his family was with him at the scene and said they are praying for the man who died.
Police said the truck was split into two pieces, and believe it rolled a couple of times before it landed at the bottom of an embankment.
Hazmat crews are on the scene due to the truck leaking oil, but they said that has been contained and they do not believe there is any fire hazard.
Police said the southbound lane near Marshall Mill Rd. will remain closed for at least an hour for reconstruction crews to investigate.
