FRANKLIN Co., Va. (WSET) -- State Police is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Franklin County.

Police said the hit-and-run happened Thursday around 12:05 a.m. on Bethlehem Rd. at its intersection with Sauls Hill Ln.

They said an unknown vehicle was driving east on Bethlehem Rd. when it hit the pedestrian and fled the scene.

Stephen Robert Yopp, 51, of Boones Mill died at the scene after being hit.

His son Michael Yopp pleaded for the person responsible to come forward, "Even if I know you and we grew up together, just come forward to me. Come forward to somebody. And I mean, accidents happen every day. I mean, it was an accident. I mean, he could have come around there and didn't have time to do anything but when you left it changed a whole game up."

He added, "An accident, you would have pulled off, and yeah, it would have been sad story, but it wouldn't be like it is now where we're all sitting, getting ready to have a viewing tonight, a funeral tomorrow and we still don't know who caused it or what happened."

Police said crash damage will be located on the right front side of the unknown vehicle.

State Police is looking for information from the public to help locate the driver of the vehicle.
