Police: Man charged with shooting woman during struggle

BEDFORD Co., Va. (WSET) -- The Bedford County Sheriff's office said it's investigating a shots fired call on Hale Street in Goodview.

Police said deputies responded to a home on Sunday night when they heard screaming coming from inside, where they then found a woman who had been shot.

After investigating, police said the suspect had gone to the home and shot the woman twice during a struggle.

Ronald Lumsden, 63, then fled the scene in a pick-up truck, according to police.

While deputies attended to the victim and processed the scene, officers with the Town of Bedford found the truck and pulled Lumsden over.

Lumsden was taken into custody without incident and charged with felonious assault/malicious wounding, violation of a protective order, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

He is being held without bond in the Adult Detention Center in Bedford.

Police said the victim was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
