Police: Grocery store robbed, clerk arrested for stealing money after robbery
ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) -- The Roanoke Police Department said it's investigating a reported bank robbery, turned embezzlement case.
Police said officers were called to the 800 block of Tazewell Avenue, SE (Big Lick Grocery) around 8:15 p.m. Thursday to investigate a reported robbery.
They said a suspect came into the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money.
After getting money, they said the suspect ran away on foot.
Officers set up a perimeter around the area of the store following the robbery, but said they did not find the suspect.
Then, police said as officers carefully reviewed surveillance video of the robbery, they witnessed the clerk, Terry Hopson, Jr., 43, of Roanoke remove additional cash from the register, after the suspect had left, and put the money in his back pocket.
Hopson was arrested for embezzlement and taken to the Roanoke City Jail.
