Police: Convenience store employee shot dead in Danville

Danville Police has identified the victim in a homicide investigation at a convenience store early Tuesday morning.
Police said officers responded to the Joy Food Mart on Riverside Drive in reference to someone in medical distress, but when they got there, they found a man behind the counter with a gunshot wound and was later pronounced dead.
The victim has been identified as Tahir Mahmud, 54, of Danville who was operating the store.
Police said a Pittsylvania County K9 deputy and bloodhound also responded to the scene to help police with a K9 track.

DANVILLE, Va. (WSET) - Danville Police say a deceased man was found inside the Joy Food Store Tuesday morning.
According to police, no one else was inside the store on Riverside Drive around 10 a.m.
Officials say they're waiting on a search warrant.
Danville Police say they're investigating the incident as a murder.
