HENRY Co., Va. (WSET) -- A man who police say barricaded himself inside a home armed with a kitchen knife is now facing charges.

Police got a call of a domestic disturbance on Jessica Avenue in Bassett around 12:45 p.m. Saturday.

When they got there, Jeffery Wellington Newton, 49, of Bassett was on the porch armed with a large kitchen knife.

Officers said Newton went into the home and refused to come out, but talked to deputies through an open window and made threats to harm himself and deputies.

After four hours of negotiations, Newton came out of his home and was taken into custody.

He was charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer, and five misdemeanors of domestic assault, destruction of property, indecent exposure, intoxication in public, and obstruction of justice.

Newton is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
