Petition to name new Galax High football field after fallen deputy gains traction

GALAX, Va. (WSET) -- Members of the Galax community say the want the high schools new football field to be named after Curtis Bartlett.

He is the Carroll County deputy killed during a police vehicle chase back in March.

Bartlett is an alum of Galax High School.

A representative for the school says they are putting in a new Astroturf. Some in the community say that field should be named after Bartlett to honor him.

So they started a petition to do that. Already it's received 777 signatures.

The school says they are in the process of naming a fitness center after Bartlett. He was an avid fitness enthusiast.
