Owner of property that burned down in Amherst Co. arrested on unrelated charges

The person who called 911, Matthew Waltz, has been arrested on outstanding warrants for failing to appear in court on unrelated charges.

The Amherst County Sheriff's Office said Waltz is the property owner and also owned property that burned down in 2014 in the same area.

According to the Blue Ridge Regional Jail's website, Waltz was released around 6:30 a.m.

A house fire in Amherst County appears "as suspicious" on Wednesday morning, according to Amherst County Public Safety Director.

It appears this is a "suspecious fire," said Amherst County Public Safety Director Gary Roakes.

Fire officials are still searching the house to confirm no one was inside, according to Amherst Public Safety Director.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and we are working to find further details.

AMHERST Co., Va. (WSET) - Monelison and Amherst County Fire Department responded to a house fire in Ameherst Co. Wednesday morning.

Fire officials were the ones who responded to the scene at around 4:15 a.m. to reports of a house fire in the 2800 block of Boxwood Farm Rd.

Authorities say that some family members were inside when the blaze started. No one inside has been reported as injured.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
