Officials: Man charged with attempted murder after brief standoff in Meherrin
PRINCE EDWARD Co., Va. (WSET) - A Meherrin man is charged with second-degree attempted murder after a standoff on Saturday, according to the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Office.
Official say deputies responded to the 4000 block of Meherrin Road for a report of a man shooting at people.
According to officials, the man, now identified as James R. Scott, was outside of a residence brandishing a handgun.
They say after a brief standoff; deputies were able to convince Scott to surrender peacefully.
According to the sheriff's office, the incident stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Scott and the victim.
Scott is charged with second-degree attempted murder, assault, shooting into an occupied dwelling, reckless handling of a firearm, and brandishing a firearm.
Scott of being held at the Piedmont Regional Jail without bond, according to the sheriff's office.
