Officials: Local inmate found hanging in cell
ROANOKE, Va. (WSET) - Roanoke officials say an inmate died on Saturday.
According to the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office, deputies found Joshua M. Jones unresponsive while making routine security rounds.
They say Jones was hanging in the cell by his bed sheet.
Officials say the deputies immediately started CPR and called Jail Medical Staff and 911.
Medical personnel responded to the cell and administered CPE and used an AED (automatic external defibrillator).
Jones was pronounced dead at 10:37 p.m.
The investigation indicated Jones began taking the steps to end his life in between security rounds, the sheriff's office says.
This incident is still under investigation, according to the Roanoke Sheriff's Office.
Jones was processed into the Roanoke City Jail on September 2, and was being held without bond for failing to appear in court, possessing schedule I or II drugs, and larceny charges.
