Officials: 911 service down in Campbell Co. due to damaged fiber optic line

RUSTBURG, Va. (WSET) - Officials say Campbell County's 911 telephone service to the Brookneal (376), Rustburg (332) and Lynchburg (592) exchanges is down.

They say it is due to damage to a fiber optic line.

Officials say citizens needing emergency assistance should call (434) 283-9574 until further notice.

Officials said Century Link located a damaged fiber between Gladys and Altavista and crews are working to remedy the situation and restore service to those areas.

Right now, they don't have a estimated time that service will be back online.

They said you should be able to dial 911 from your cell phone, but some systems are experiencing difficulties.
