Newly-installed Catholic Bishop delivers message at Lynchburg church
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The newly-installed Catholic Bishop for the region celebrated at St. Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, where he spoke to a full congregation.
Bishop Barry Knestout, the 13th Bishop for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, was welcomed to the area with open arms.
"We're absolutely delighted to have His Excellency. We've been waiting for this for so long," said Tunney Williams, a church member.
His Excellency was just installed earlier this month, and now, he is making the rounds across the region.
"I'm thrilled to be here in order to gather with the community and all the parishes that are part of the Lynchburg area," Bishop Knestout said.
He shared his goals and vision, which include Catholics and Christians having a great impact on the world through their charity.
"To be able to see the communities, to be with them, to get a sense for the life of the church here in this area is a great joy for me and important for me to be able to be effective as a pastor," he said.
The bishop has been on the road for three days and will continue making rounds through the first week in February.
