Mother indicted with murder of 5-year-old son, one year after his death
NOTTOWAY Co., Va. (WSET) -- One year after the death of a five-year-old boy in Nottoway County, his mother has been indicted for his murder.
Tyson Tharpe died in March 2017 from what the medical examiner determined to be a homicide, specifically blunt force trauma.
Cyndi Gaulding Tharpe was direct indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday, March 6 for three counts of felony child abuse and one count of felony murder, according to WTVR in Richmond.
On March 20, 2017, deputies with the Nottoway County Sheriff's Office said Cyndi Tharpe called 911 to get medical help for her son, who died a short time later at Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville.
A legal expert told WTVR that a direct indictment is something where you can go to a grand jury because there's an investigation and they have the luxury of taking some time to decide what appropriate charges are.
According to court records, Tharpe has posted bond for her charges.
