Man accused of shackling children to beds graduated from Virginia Tech
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WSET) - A man accused of keeping 13 children shackled in his California home graduated from Virginia Tech.
57-year-old David Allen Turpin and 49-year-old Louise Anna Turpin were arrested after one of their children called authorities.
Deputies found the children and say they were malnourished and living in "dark, foul-smelling conditions."
The children range in age from 2 to 29.
The Turpins appeared in court Thursday, and were being held on nine counts of torture and child endangerment.
Each have bail of $9,000,000.
Virginia Tech says David Turpin graduated in 1984 with a B.S. degree in Electrical and Computer engineering.
The grandparents' say the children looked happy and healthy during their last visit to California six years ago.
