Lynchburg Police warn of fundraising scam
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Lynchburg Police say a new scam is going around, and they aren't part of it.
Officials say the scammer is trying to raise money for the Lynchburg Police Department, but does not specify a charity or purpose for the funds.
Police say the scammer does not identify himself and is aggressive, forceful, and rude.
The Lynchburg Police Department linked the numbers to Paetac Starnet, an organization known for scams, according to officials.
According to the Federal Trade Commission, the best thing to do when getting fundraising calls is to ask for specifics - where the money will be going, what it will be used for, and if the donation is tax-deductible.
