Lynchburg Democrats holding 'Day of Action' instead of protesting Trump's visit
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- Not everyone is excited about President Donald Trump's visit to Lynchburg to speak at Liberty University's Commencement on Saturday.
There are already groups on Facebook planning protests.
But, the Lynchburg Democratic Committee is among them, instead they plan to do community service.
Democrats say Saturday is not about President Trump, but it's about the graduates.
At 9 a.m. on Saturday, the committee will hold a day of action at Armstrong Place in Lynchburg.
That's a facility to help people with physical and mental disabilities.
Their service will include gardening, planting, and cleaning because over the past year, Democrats said they haven't done much service due to the election cycles.
Plus, they said protesting a graduation is not right.
"We feel strongly in education and regardless of who the Commencement speaker is, going to protest a graduation simply stands against our values and we support education and this is a big day for the students," said Maria Childress, Vice Chair of the Lynchburg Democratic Committee.
The committee says their day of service will go on rain or shine.
