Lynchburg citizens notice growing coyote presence

(Jim Weigand)

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Lynchburg residents have reported an increase in coyote sightings.

Citizens have reported seeing coyotes wandering on the Blackwater Creek Trail.

One woman says a coyote even ate her cat!

"I wouldn't leave my small animals or my children outside," Gwynne Selman, an avid trail walker, said.

Jim Weigand took pictures of the coyotes on Elmwood Avenue.

Neighbors in that area say they've heard and seen the coyotes gathered at the old Odd Fellows Road Property.

"I think that they should send someone out here and try to trap them, and relocate them not kill them, but relocate," Selman said.

Others who walk the trails say they're worried, but it won't keep them from enjoying the outdoors.

Neither the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries or Animal Control have commented on how the coyote problem can be remedied.
