LU: Reported sexual assault a hoax
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) - Liberty University says a reported abduction and sexual assault in September was not true.
On September 28, LU released a statement saying that a student was sexually assaulted after being offered a ride to her dorm.
According to the alert sent to students, the driver refused to allow the victim out of the car and drove to a secluded area where the alleged assault took place.
LU officials say there was no abduction by a stranger or otherwise.
Officials say the university and LUPD take reports of criminal activity seriously and act upon them, including the use of the Campus Alert System.
"Unfortunately, false reports cause undue concern to the campus community and consume valuable resources," officials said in a press release.
