Local woman heads to Mayo Clinic for possible heart & kidney transplant
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A Lynchburg woman traveled to Florida Tuesday for a possible heart and kidney transplant.
Jaine Carpenter is headed to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.
Her husband, Melvin, said the 54-year-old's battle with cancer has caused her heart problems and her one kidney is no longer working.
Centra transported her to Lynchburg Regional Airport Tuesday morning.
Through all of this, though, Carpenter said his wife is staying in good spirits.
"She's still having fun, waving and smiling," he said. "She always says, she's not in any pain, it's amazing what she went through and what she's still going through."
Carpenter said the Clinic will conduct more tests and determine whether she needs a transplant.
They headed to the Mayo Clinic because of Carpenter's healthcare plan.
