Local vet shares how to keep pets protected in extreme weather conditions
LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- A local veterinarian is offering advice on how to keep pets protected in extreme cold conditions.
According to Scott Miller of Addison Animal Hospital, it is important to make sure that pets either have a good dog house or are brought inside when temperatures drop into the twenties or teens.
A pet's tolerance for cold weather is all dependent on their breed and condition.
Short-haired dogs cannot stay outside as long as others.
"If they have to be outside, just make sure they have good, well-insulated shelter, out of the wind, that they can curl up in," Miller said.
Veterinarians added that using common sense and making sure pets are well-fed will also help them to stay warm.
